High Profile Cases:
This Firm has been involved in a number of high profile complex and serious cases and the most notable of which are as follows:
R -v- Early & Others, The Times, August 2 2002 - commonly known as the “London City Bond” case. We represented the Defendant Mr Richard Dowell and overturned his conviction despite the fact that he had actually entered a guilty plea at the original trial. This was one of the only occasions that a guilty plea was overturned in the history of English Law. This case is reported in Archbold.
R -v- Colleen McCabe, - The Times, July 2003 - commonly known as “The Headmistress Case”. We represented Colleen McCabe who was the Headmistress convicted of stealing large sums of money from her employers being the London Borough of Bromley whilst she was Headmistress of Sir John Rigby School.
R -v- Steele & Whomes - Appeal. This firm represents Mr Michael Steele in his Appeal, following a referral from the CCRC, against conviction for triple murder in the case that was commonly known as the “Rettendon Murders”.
H -v- DPP (2002) 1 A.C. 285 House of Lords. This Firm acted on behalf of H in relation to an affray matter which went to the House of Lords to be decided on the elements required for the offence of affray to have been committed. This offence was widely reported at the time and is detailed in Archbold.
Jolie (Leroy) (2004) 1 C.r.App.R.3. This Firm represented Mr Jolie in the Court of Appeal following conviction for possession of an offensive weapon. Again this case was widely reported on the issue of possession of offensive weapons and is reported in Archbold.
R v Mitchell and Mitchell -2001 - This was a successful appeal in relation to Confiscation Order - Now a leading case on Confiscation Proceedings and reported in Archbold.
The Firm has acted on behalf of Defendants in relation to SFO prosecutions, a substantial number of serious fraud cases, prosecutions by the Special Case Work Unit of the Crown Prosecution Service, large scale importation and possession with intent to supply drugs cases and the whole gambit of serious cases from murders to road traffic matters over many years.
