Our Criminal Department specialises in all areas of criminal work from Road Traffic Act matters through to the most serious criminal offences including serious fraud, murder and rape running the whole ambit of criminal offences in between.

Alexander Johnson has a particular speciality in white-collar crime and is a member of the Serious Fraud Panel being one of the first firms to qualify for this specialist panel. All serious cases and in particular white-collar crime (including fraud, deception, money laundering and fraudulent trading) is dealt with by one of the senior Solicitors of at least 8 years call who specialise in crime. Each senior Solicitor is assisted by other members of the Criminal Department on each individual large case.

Alexander Johnson have been involved in a number of high profile cases and high profile appeals particularly in the area of money laundering, confiscation proceedings and cases involving Customs and Excise.

Alexander Johnson acts on behalf of both private paying and legally aided clients and is more than happy to discuss fees and in particular legal aid eligibility at any time. Potential clients should appreciate that whilst proceedings are in the Magistrates Court there is no means test and everybody qualifies for legal aid subject to the proceedings being serious enough to merit such funding.

The Serious Fraud Panel was set up by the Legal Services Commission (formerly known as the Legal Aid Board) to provide clients with a reference list of firms who specialise in Very High Cost Cases involving fraud or complex drugs matters and to ensure that firms doing this sort of work have the necessary expertise.

Alexander Johnson was one of the first firms on the panel and reflects the expertise and experience this firm has in this area of work.
